What is RGL?

Robot Gladiator League (RGL) is an innovative, high-energy, combat-robotics team sport at the intersection of technology, engineering, and entertainment. As a youth workforce development program, RGL integrates traditional sports dynamics into STEM education, transforming it from a science club activity into a competitive sports experience. Through a structured sports model featuring teams, coaches, seasons, inter-school melees, and post-season tournaments, RGL provides hands-on STEM learning that connects theory to application, builds technical skills, and inspires confident, engaged students. Students can earn workforce-ready microcredentials through the Robot Gladiator League App, while educators benefit from a full classroom curriculum aligned with the latest standards. With its dynamic competitions and engaging spectator appeal, RGL attracts a diverse range of students to STEM and fosters meaningful, real-world learning experiences.

DESIGN

Working in teams, students design and build offensive and defensive weapon-systems for their combat robots, learning about motors, sensors, and controllers as well as learning to integrate these components into a working system. Students exercise creativity by designing unique and innovative robots. Students participate in research, brainstorming, conceptualization, and the design and fabrication processes. Students are exposed to cutting edge RC robotics technology, use of CAD software and novel fabrication techniques.

BUILD

Students and their engineer mentors collaborate using their expertise to fabricate a competitive combat robot, learning valuable, applicable workforce skills such as machining, welding, fabrication and electronics assembly. Students gain experience in materials selection, cutting and shaping, assembly, wiring and electronics, testing and refinement.

COMPETE

Strategy: Students study the mechanics of combat sports, analyzing tactics and techniques used by competitors and apply this knowledge to their own robots, testing strategies and refining designs based on performance. RGL matches are dynamic, which adds a layer of complexity and provides unique challenges for the teams.
Problem Solving: Students learn to troubleshoot issues that arise during the competition, including mechanical failures, electrical system faults, adjusting robot components, and adapting to changes in the competition environment.

DESIGN

Students work in teams to design and build combat robots, using components like motors, sensors, and controllers. They exercise creativity and participate in the entire design process, from research and brainstorming to fabrication. Students also learn about cutting-edge RC robotics technology and use CAD software and fabrication techniques to create their unique and innovative robots.

Section A – Main Contact

The Robot Gladiator League is a unique combat robotics sport that offers students not only a competitive experience but also valuable, industry-focused skills that can support their future careers. This is a team where every member has the potential and are given the skills to "go pro". While we aim to make this revolutionary program accessible to students statewide, it is important for the team to understand that, while the experience can be fun, it also requires dedication and hard work. Submitting a completed application does not guarantee entry into the league, as we seek committed and motivated individuals ready to contribute and grow within the program. A memorandum of agreement will be sent to the school if your team is selected to participate. Thank you for your interest in Robot Gladiator League.

Titan Legion: This is the Combat Legion. While we are still working out all of the fine details, The scoring will more resemble combat sports like boxing and wrestling. The focus of the game is combat.

Vulcan Legion: This is the competitive legion that is played as it is now, with a focus on scoring points.

Teams can decide to compete in both for an additional Site Liscening Fee.
This is the person that needs to be copied in on all communications. This does not have to be the coach of the team, but it can be.

Section B – Coaching Staff Contact

These questions pertain to the coaching staff.  Communication between the coaching staff and RGL leadership is crucial for a teams success within the league.

Section C – Administration Contact

To ensure the long-term success of the Robot Gladiator League team, it is crucial to have strong support from the school. This person will play a key role in securing the team's future, assisting with funding, and helping to organize events. Their involvement will also help ease the workload on the coaching staff. Potential candidates for this role include the principal, assistant principal, school secretary, or other administrative staff members.

Section D – Coaching Staff Experience

Please check any of the following skills / activities in which you have experience.

The Robot Gladiator League robots are not open and go Lego Robotics kits. While we do provide a chassis kit, a manual, and offer guidance throughout the process, it’s essential that the team has access to someone with mechanical or fabrication expertise—or at least a strong willingness to learn in these areas. RGL offers students the opportunity to develop real-world skills that are highly transferable to professional environments, preparing them for careers beyond the classroom. Additionally, a dedicated workspace is critical for the success of the team. Building complex robots requires the proper facilities and equipment, making a suitable space essential for the team's development.
